Likely has an Advanced Degree – Masters or PhD – in a highly quantitative discipline (such as Physics or Applied Math).

Research expertise will be around advanced quantitative analysis of very large data sets. Particularly focused on algorithm development.

May have finance/investing experience from another quant investing role, but also just as likely to come from a non-finance background

Strong programming skills – will likely be required to pass a code test in Java, C, or C++.

Very high bar on Math/Statistics, quantitative problem solving skills, and academic pedigree/performace. Particularly interested in Awards candidates (those who have placed in the IMO, for example).

Key Responsibilities:

Overall management and mentorship of a team of 6-10 software developers
Translation of complex functional and technical requirements into individual release assignments
Work closely with the product management team to determine the optimum feature sets for products
Definition and continued refinement of the software development and delivery processes
Maintain current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology, always on a look out for new technologies and work with management and development team in bringing new technologies.
Effectively coach developers on new technologies and programming techniques.

Skills and Experience Necessary for the Role:

Bachelors degree – preferably in computer science – or similar experience
Demonstrated ability to inspire and mentor a technical team
Proven results-oriented person with a track record of delivery
Ability to adapt to new development environments and changing business requirements
Core competencies in Java, XML, SQL, HTML
Experience with other web technologies such as DHTML, Javascript, iBatis, Freemarker, Hibernate, Spring, or Tapestry is a plus
Experience with large distributed applications is a plus as is building/operating highly available systems
6+ years of overall development experience and 3+ years of software management experience.
Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithm, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures.
Works well in a team environment and be able to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements
Strong strategic vision, presentation and technology leadership skills.
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
